Metal Ink was founded in 2023 and is operated by me, Mara Kennan, in Boulder, CO. Metal Ink Finishing is my space where I transform titanium into a canvass through multi-media blasting and anodization.

What is ‘Anodizing’?
Anodizing is where science meets artistry in a truly transformative process. But how exactly does it work?
At its core, anodizing involves the controlled oxidation of titanium's surface. By applying specific voltages, the surface undergoes an electrochemical reaction that creates a thin oxide layer and where the magic lies is in the voltage. Different voltages produce different colors, unlocking a spectrum of vibrant hues without the need for traditional paints or dyes.
In essence, this process allows me to "paint" titanium surfaces with electricity, creating bold and durable finishes that are as unique as your imagination.
